🚨 Critical: 60-Day Registration Window
Trane gives you 60 days from installation to register your product. If you miss this window, your warranty drops from 10 years to just 5 years on most components. Registration is free at trane.com — there is zero reason not to do it. You'll need your serial number, model number, and installation date. Each component of your HVAC system must be registered individually.
Florida residents: As of July 1, 2024, failure to register does not diminish warranty rights or decrease coverage length under Florida law.
📞 How to File a Warranty Claim
- Register your product at trane.com/warranty within 60 days of installation
- Contact your local Trane dealer — they diagnose the issue and file the claim for you
- Trane provides a replacement part for free if it failed due to manufacturing defect
- You pay for labor, shipping, and installation (Trane NEVER covers labor on standard warranty)
- Keep all maintenance invoices — Trane may require documentation that system was properly maintained
⚖️ Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
10-year registered warranty is among the best in HVAC industry
Select XV/XL units get up to 12-year compressor coverage
Registered warranty is transferable ($99 fee, within 90 days of home sale)
Optional Extended Warranty available in 5, 10, or 12-year terms covering labor
❌ Cons
Labor is NEVER covered under base or registered warranty — budget $200-500+ per repair
Miss the 60-day registration window and coverage drops by 50%
Must be installed by a licensed HVAC professional or warranty is void
Lack of maintenance can be grounds for claim denial
💡 Dwelltory Pro Tips
- 📌 REGISTER WITHIN 60 DAYS — Set a reminder the day of installation. If your dealer says they'll register for you, verify at trane.com/warranty-lookup within a week. Don't assume it was done.
- 📌 Trane vs. Carrier: nearly identical warranty structure — Both require registration for 10-year coverage. Carrier gives you 90 days; Trane gives you only 60. Don't sleep on it.
- 📌 Consider the Optional Extended Warranty — It's the only way to get labor covered. Costs $300-$1,500 depending on coverage and system. A single HVAC repair without labor coverage can cost more than the extended warranty itself.
- 📌 Keep every maintenance record — Trane can request written proof that the system was properly maintained before approving a claim. Annual tune-ups by a licensed tech are your best insurance.
